V&A launches annual Graphic Design competition

GG-Logo_290The Victoria & Albert Museum has launched its annual Graphic Design competition for GCSE / AS & A Level Graphics Students. This year’s contest will involve working to an exciting live brief provided by Art on the Underground.

Art on the Underground (AOTU) launched in 2000 and is London’s largest art programme. The programme includes commissions, such as the Pocket Tube map cover series, artists’ posters and the ongoing Line Series, inviting artists to make new artworks across entire Tube lines.

This two-day project consists of a group briefing and culminates in a student presentation day to a panel of industry experts and other participating schools. On Day One students will be invited to the Museum for an industry briefing with Art on the Underground and the V&A. Winners and runners-up will return on Day Two for the final judging day. Teachers can also book places for the rest of their group on Day Two on a first come, first served basis – this should be requested at the point of booking.

The Brief

Design a poster for the London Underground that conveys the ‘language of London’. The poster will go on display around the Tube network and will be seen by millions of people each day.

The live competition will run on12 October 2015 and 8 February 2016. Places are free but limited to 20 schools with a maximum of two teachers and 25 students per school, meaning that booking is essential, call 020 7942 2211for more details.
