Bread and Butter Press launch post-war printmakers at Top Drawer

Bread and Butter Press specialize in greeting cards from original work by post-war British printmakers. The company works with the printmakers and their families to promote their work to a new audience. The images for the cards are taken directly from the original prints; many of which come from the printmakers’ studios or personal archives.

We began by producing cards from work by Robert Tavener (1920-2004) who we knew well. We have since branched out to produce cards by other printmakers of Tavener’s generation such as Bernard Cheese, Charles Bartlett, Richard Vicary and others. The cards have a wide appeal and depict quintessential English scenes, landscapes, the seaside, London Horse Guards and more.

For our launch at Top Drawer we have put together a selection of winter images such as “Snow Clearing” from a lithograph made in 1955 by Robert Tavener and two etchings, ”White Hare and “Badger” by Jack Coutu. (All the cards are blank inside with a short biography about the artist on the reverse.)
