Special Editions – part of the UK Greetings family – held a fundraising day in August where it raised £3240 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield.
The event was formed as part of Special Editions annual team building day. Beth Keown, Special Editions Business Development Manager explained; “We wanted to do something that would bring us together as a team, but also together with other UKG colleagues and the local community. As the charity division of UKG fundraising for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice seemed the perfect way to do that – and to have some fun at the same time!”
On Wednesday 10th August 2011, UK Greetings Head Office in Dewsbury became a country style gala, with a tombola, raffle, trolley dolly tea service and other fun games for employees to get involved in. There was also a cake stall selling all kinds of goodies including pink cupcakes which were kindly donated by Greggs the Bakers and decorated with Icing Forget Me Not flowers by the Special Editions team.
The team also set up a stall in the local Market (which was kindly provided free of charge) selling Forget Me Not cupcakes and running a Guess the Name of a soft toy competition. The main event on the day was a charity auction, which saw ‘lots’, donated by local companies, go under the hammer. Prizes included a professional wedding photography package, ski-ing experience, manicures, private horse riding lessons, plus many more amazing contributions.
The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice gives vital support to children with life limiting or life-threatening conditions across Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield. The charity must raise over £2.5m each year to ensure they are able to help the children and families that come to them for support. Jason Costello, Partnership Developer at The Forget Me Not Trust explains: “The cost of keeping the hospice running is £4500 a day so this money will provide a whole days worth of care for our children and families”.
There are currently more than 400 children and families in Kirklees, Calderdale & Wakefield who need the help the hospice offers. Volunteer fundraisers play a huge part in the success of the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, having raised nearly £3million during the twelve years since the charity was launched.
Jason adds, “Without local businesses and community donations there would be no Hospice. Events such as this also raise our profile thus raising awareness of the Forget Me Not Hospice, so a huge thank you to everyone!”
