Pulse 2013 saw the AW 2013/14 micro trend forecast presented by UK consultancy Global Colour Research, publisher of Mix Trends, a bi-annual colour trend forecast book with colour trend information.
Colour trend creative Sally Davies commented: ”This year for the Pulse visitors we identified three exciting aesthetics that will feed into the key trends for 2014. Moving forward we will see pattern get a fresh new identity, redefining decoration with a focus on exaggerated style, while themes that inspire a friendly and homely aesthetic drive a more nostalgic approach to design.’
The first of the micro trends is Woodgrain, where the beauty of a forest scene brings endless design inspiration, in particular through imitating natural patterns of wood. Look out for Printed wood grain pattern, woodland inspired textiles and wood grain patterns in a palette of tw
o colours.
In total contrast is the bold Pattern Overload micro trend. Here we have a micro trend that is impactful and expressive, with designs that embrace a mix and match clashing style where plain surfaces are forbidden! Look out for pattern on pattern, florals at full blast and refreshed paisley motifs in new colours.
Then there is the Folk Inspired micro trend that just keeps gaining momentum as more and more consumers yearn for the good life. Inspired by tradition we see an ever increasing return to craft making. Seeking comfort through friendly and homely styles, the retail, gift and home accessories markets focus on a nostalgia approach for 2014. Look out for rustic and natural aesthetics, the use of sustainable materials such as wood, cork and plant fibres, and a hand crafted style.
