Independent Retailer Month is a global ‘shop local’ campaign that runs annually throughout July to highlight the important role smaller, local, independent retailers play in the communities they serve, the local economy to which they contribute, and in the retail sector as a whole.
For every pound you spend in a local independent shop or locally owned business up to 70p benefits your local community whereas if you shop at an out of town centre or online with one of the retail multiples, as little as 5p finds it’s way back.
With so many out-of-town shopping centres and online shopping options out there today we need to be aware of and keep focused on the positive qualities of a personal service, a unique service which can only be provided on your local doorstep with your support as a customer.
Small independent shops help to give countless towns around the UK and wider world their unique character, while fostering a sense of local community, ensuring town centres thrive.
As part of the Indie Retail Month 2013 campaign Humphrey & Tilly is running a competition: ‘Post on their Facebook page or send a photo of you in your Humphrey & Tilly hooded sweatshirt from wherever you are in the world to their Twitter account for the chance to win some great prizes.
The best girl and best guy will both win some fabulous goodies from Humphrey & Tilly’s Heyland and Whittle & GEO F Trumper ranges. Winners will be announced on August 1 on Facebook and Twitter.
Independent Retailer Month UK is led by retail champion Clare Rayner.
