Spring/Summer 2016 Accessories Trends

tattooFashion trade exhibition Pure, which took place on August 2 – 4 at London’s Olympia, included a fantastic future trend presentation from the style gurus at WGSN.

As well as detailing the key looks in apparel we can look forward to seeing in spring/summer 2016, the Director for Retail Buying, Sarah Maggioni, pinpointed up and coming trends in fashion accessories and jewellery, both important gifting categories for retailers.

ISABELLA SINGLETONWhile a return to print and pattern is on the cards for clothing – “lots of florals, bohemian patterns, wide stripes and modernist blocking” – romantic pink and nude colourways contrasted with a deep aquatic palette will also be in evidence come the spring.

Important details will come in the form of broderie anglaise and lace, hand loomed material, needlepoint denim, metallic sheens and oil-slick finishes, fluid silks and sheer fabric, over-sized eyelets, raw edges, let-down hems, bared shoulders and gingham.

ROCKSHOP JEWELLERY SHOWJewellery trends to look out for include exaggerated crystal pieces that emphasise the natural beauty of the gem-stones and compliment the seasonal colours with romantic rose quartz and translucent amethyst with bold simplicity.

THE BRANCHElaborate cuffs will also be in evidence on fashionable arms next season, while architectural shapes will bring a modern feel to fashion jewellery. Also keep an eye out for low price impulse purchase items such as hair charms, ear clips and pretty fingernail rings that draw attention to great manicures, stars and crystals for super-feminine detailing. These are so small and easy to merchandise that even the corner shop can carry a counter selection.

CADARI JEWELLERY SHOWOther cool accessories waiting to take centre stage include tortoiseshell sunglasses, straw boaters and quality leather saddle bags. The white drawstring duffle bag is another key shape for the coming season, offering the perfect blank canvas for handbag embellishments.

FABLE_BAGS_SADDLELast but not least, a complete novelty among the accessories that you can’t afford to ignore is the adhesive tattoo. Originally the highlight of every children’s party, it has now become socially acceptable and, as a ‘flash tattoo’, is used to decorate wrists, cleavage and fingers. The decorative gold or silver stickers are based on pieces of jewellery and ensure the wearer makes a sparkling impression whatever the occasion.
