Clarion Events, organiser of one of the UK’s most inspiring giftware and modern living exhibitions, Pulse, has shared a series of inspirational design predictions for Autumn/winter 2016/17 to help guide your buying at the show later this month.
Pulse will take place from May 15 – 17 at Kensington Olympia, London and is set to offer buyers and retailers an unmissable opportunity to source from thousands of cutting edge products presented by more than 500 exciting brands.
The beautifully curated showcase has been put together by an expert panel of design and trend experts, and features a treasure trove of new and unseen brands from the UK and overseas.
Working with the most forward-thinking trend and retail experts including Fashion Trend Consultant, Claire Foster and Trend Agency, Unique Style Platform (USP), Pulse has identified some inspiring Autumn/Winter 2016/17 design trends.
USP, will launch a further five new lifestyle trends at the show with a series of onsite shop window installations. Trend highlights include Maximalist, which sees style crossing boundaries, both geographical and social. Intriguing cultures come to the fore with an eclectic take on the globe and all it has to offer.
Inspired by globetrotting collections and more is more styling, the maximalist trend is a vivid mix of creativity and craft.
At the opposite end of the spectrum there is the Modernist trend. Clean, balanced and structured, this style rejects decoration in favour of simplified forms. Abstract motifs and asymmetrical graphics are key, as is fine craftsmanship and material exploration.
Simplicity is key in terms of colour, print and finish in the Coastal Simplicity t rend. Materials have a rustic finish, such as bleached natural wood, worn enamel and crackled salt glazes on ceramics. Textiles are practical calico, coarse natural weaves and waterproof wax fabrics.
Bleached out greys, bright white and sand form the basis of a fresh and clean palette. Verdant green, gentle mint and earthy brown echo coastal plants, while a mix of cornflower, sky blue and navy provide a hint of nautical chic transporting us to an idyllic life by the sea.
The Memphis movement changed the face of design in the 1980s, reintroducing bold colour and decoration and finding inspiration in eclectic influences such as Art Deco and African tribal prints. The new interpretation of Memphis gives a contemporary twist to a retro look, playful clashes of pattern and colour are the main focus. This dynamic style serves as a rebellion against simplicity, celebrating a maximalist approach to design.
Featuring the very best collection of emerging talent, unseen products, expert retail and trend insight all year round, Pulse is the UK’s most inspiring event for giftware and modern living.
