Francesca Simpson is a self-taught wildlife and pet portrait artist originally from Northumberland now based in Leicestershire. She works from her home studio where she creates realistic animal drawings using either a black biro (Bic) or black and white Faber Castell coloured pencils on brown paper.
For many of her drawings she uses reference photos she takes herself in the Leicestershire countryside and from which she produces limited edition prints and greeting cards. Since the brown/neutral colour of her work fits in well with current vintage trends, she recently branched out into homeware (bone china mugs, coasters and faux suede cushions).
Fransisca comments: “I’ve always loved the classic look of monochrome on toned paper so with my work I try to combine the traditional and contemporary by making my drawings as life-like as possible. I also enjoy working in acrylic on canvas when I want to make something more colourful”.
Fransisca Simpson will be exhibiting at the British Craft Trade Fair which takes place from April 8-10 2018 at the Great Yorkshire Showground in beautiful Harrogate.
