‘Yellow is the new pink’

Yellow is the new accent colour, velvet and ‘plush’ fabrics will be all the rage and ‘statement’ ceilings are the next big interiors trend. These valuable nuggets are just some of the style-leading trends to be unveiled at Spring Fair’s The Atelier – an interactive, immersive showcase making its debut this year at the show, running 4-8 February.

Designed to help buyers interpret interiors and product style for their customers, The Atelier presents the future of home and giftware via a series of four walk-in installations, complete with inspiring big-screen videos. Audio guides created by independent visual merchandising experts will lead visitors through the installations and highlight the key techniques and tips showcased in the displays.

The series of exclusive films – based on insights from industry-leading trend forecasters and retail data platforms WGSN, Pinterest, One Click Retail and Coloro – will point to what’s hot right now, the look and feel of 2018 and the exciting trends that will inform décor and product themes in 2019 and 2020.

Pinterest points out that statement ceilings are now the ‘fifth wall’ and resort-inspired décor (particularly rattan) will be all the rage. WGSN signals yellow as the ‘new pink’ as an accent colour and heralds the end of our love-affair with unicorns in favour of the sloth as the next animal motif to adorn furnishings and fabrics. If its colour direction you need, then Coloro has got you covered with core and accent colours for all seasons for the next two years.

Sophy Searight, Spring Fair’s Head of Content, explains: “Whether you are a retailer, designer, installer or specifier, The Atelier will ensure you’re on the money. The Atelier is the perfect place for buying teams too, both senior and junior members will get an overview of what is on the horizon and can use the Atelier’s insights to understand what will work best for their business”.
