GCA to launch new Brooklyn exhibition

The executive committee of the American Greeting Card Association (GCA) has voted unanimously to organise a new industry trade exhibition, scheduled to make its debut next spring.

The new show, the name of which is yet to be revealed, is scheduled for May 18-20, 2019, at the Brooklyn Expo Center. The GCA’s LOUIE Awards for excellence in greeting card design will take place at the same time.

GCA President, Christy Kaprosy, informed members of the new development a couple of days ago. The decision was taken as Emerald Expositions announced that it will move the National Stationery Show and art and design licensing exhibition, Surtex – for many years held together in the middle of May – to early February, where they will be co-located with the NY NOW show at New York’s Javits Center.

Christy’s email stated: “This vote was taken following extensive conversations with our membership and interested show management partners, and following careful evaluation of all available research, including two new surveys fielded since May with exhibitors and retailers, and a mock budgeting process. The result will be a truly new show, designed to capture all the excitement that our industry can bring, and to deliver ROI to our members.”

The costs of exhibiting will be all inclusive to include lunch, drinks and a complimentary ticket to the LOUIE Awards. Around 140 companies are expected to participate.
