Having planned to attend the 2020 BCTF in Harrogate last April, Rachel Meehan is delighted to be taking part in BCTF Online from June 27 – July 1. As part of her growing selection of designs, available as cards, luxury gift wrap and more, Rachel has added some even more intricate pieces to the collection.
Inspired by the plants she grows in her extensive garden in the Scottish Borders, Rachel has recently completed a series of pieces featuring the New Zealand Flax, along with one of New Zealand’s most popular birds; the colourful Tui.
Rachel told us, “My work is usually quite details and time consuming to produce but these pieces are certainly the most detailed to date. I wanted to capture the boldness of the flax and the intricate, colourful feathers and expressions of the playful Tuis. This new piece, which is available as cards, gift wrap and prints is a combination of my two passions, flowers and birds. I really enjoyed the process in this one and I am interested to see buyer’s reactions to this development in my work”.
Ranges include, Bold Blooms and Fabulous Feathers. Bold Blooms are based on illustrations of plants from Rachel’s garden and include popular favourites such as iris and lily to the more exotic passion flower and echinacea. Fabulous Feathers is a collection of exotic bird from Jungle-fowl to Peacocks showing off their beautiful plumage.
Rachel trained as a fine artist (printmaker specialising in screen printing) and completed her Post Graduate at Glasgow School of Art. This training has greatly influenced her illustrative technique and enabled her to create images which are unique in their style. The work, inspired by the colours found in nature, is distinctive and bold, adding a touch of sophistication to any retail display. Rachel offers small order quantities and a personal service to all her outlets.
