PUMP up the Volume!

As the beauty sector becomes ever-more important for gifting – and the crossover works both ways, with more pharmacies, beauty and hair salons increasing their gift offerings – we were keen to review some of the latest haircare options coming onto the market.

Launching exclusively in the UK via Regis Salons early next year, PUMP Haircare is an eco-friendly, organic Australian hair care brand, which has already gained a cult following down under and is likely to appeal to consumers who want high performance haircare with strong environmental credentials.

Having battled difficult hair for decades and suffered a worrying period of hair-loss, our reviewer is a tough nut to crack when it comes to shampoo, especially as she lives in a very hard water area which can make a frizzy mess out of normally well-behaved locks. The PUMP range appealed to her right away as it was launched by Natasha Jay, who experienced hair loss as a side effect of Endometriosis when she was just 19.

With this in mind, our reviewer chose to test the Thickening range which has been formulated with thinning hair or hair-loss sufferers in mind – it is one of four options available from PUMP, which also has specialist formulations for Blonde, Curly and users aiming at hair Growth. Like all products in the PUMP collection, the Thickening range is completely vegan and environmentally friendly. All the products feature unique blends of botanicals, including jojaba and kiwi seed oil, to help combat dry, damaged hair and leave it feeling moisturised and shiny.

The products are also mooted to smell amazing and whilst we can’t vouch for those we haven’t tested, we can confirm that the Thickening shampoos and conditioner both smell fabulous. The shampoo is also extremely gentle on the scalp, which was immediately noticeable to our reviewer, who has a very sensitive scalp which can become sore and dry when harsher shampoos are applied.

A few key ingredients in this range include hair-loss hero, saw palmetto, which is rich in fatty acids and Gotu kola which stimulates hair growth by promoting blood circulation to the scalp. The shampoo and conditioner also deliver a healthy shine, which looks like it might be down to a mysterious silvery ingredient which also leaves hair feeling soft and silky.

Despite the salon quality results the ingredients in PUMP shampoos and conditioners are completely natural with no harsh chemicals in sight. The packaging is also sustainable, bio-degradable, recyclable and carbon neutral, with sugar cane used as the raw material for the shampoo and conditioner tubes.

PUMP Haircare is now available online and in selected salons.
