According to reports by Business Insider and Bloomberg, Shopify is set to acquire e-commerce fulfilment startup, Deliverr, for between $2.3bn and $2.7 billion, in a deal that is expected to be finalised in the next two weeks.
Deliverr, which was recently valued at $2bn and is already used by Walmart, Google Shopping and Shopify, uses software layers to connect independent warehouses, allowing small merchants to utilise nationwide warehouse networks to facilitate shipping.
With an ultimate goal of enabling its merchants to fulfil orders in two days, Shopify had originally planned to create a similar network to Deliverr, but decided the challenge was too difficult and time-consuming than it had anticipated, a former worker told Business Insider.
Without the acquisition of Deliverr, Shopify will lag behind Amazon’s awesome fulfilment network for years. Deliverr allows merchants to ship stock to a single location for Deliverr to distribute among the warehouse network.
