Harrods to open clearance outlet at Westfield

Harrods will open its first pop-up outlet at the Westfield Shopping Centre this July to help clear leftover stock amassed during lockdown.

The department store giant, which was launched 170 years ago, will rent an 80,000 square foot space previously occupied by Debenhams and is hoping the move will help with social distancing requirements for non-essential stores.

The managing director of Harrods, Michael Ward, said: “Our focus has been on getting our Knightsbridge store back to what it does best; serving our customers, supporting our brand partners and bringing new and exciting experiences to those who pass through our doors. Harrods Outlet allows us to enable better social distancing across a larger footprint, move towards the new season decisively and confidently, and retail in a responsible way.”

As Westfield hosts the pop-up full of discounted items, the main Harrods store will concentrate on new-season, non-discounted products when it eventually reopens. During the lockdown the Qatari-owned retail giant has offered a personal shopping service for its most valued customers, taking orders via telephone and messaging.
