Compendium joins GMC Distribution

GMC Distribution (GMCD) has welcomed award-winning Seattle-based publisher Compendium (an imprint of Crown Publishing/Penguin Random House), to its growing roster of clients. Founded in 1985, Compendium specialises in turning everyday items into extraordinary gifts, and everyday moments into memorable events.

Compendium’s innovative collection comprises gift products for all ages including books, plush toys, guided journals, greeting cards, stationery and desk accessories, all of which use vibrant designs combined with original illustrations and caring language to create a range of products that place the relationships between friends and family at the forefront.

Acclaimed contributors include award-winning poet and writer M.H. Clark, New York Times bestselling author (and Compendium Founder & now Creative Director at Large) Kobi Yamada and award-winning illustrator Elise Hurst. Each item is thoughtfully designed to make someone feel special, featuring high-end finishes such as gold foil stamping, dust jackets with metallic inks, ribbon markers and debossed covers.

The Tell Me More card game sets are meant to help friends, family and couples discover more about each other; guided journals like I Wrote a Book About You are fill-in keepsakes to cherish; whilst the Pop-Opens and Thoughtfulls cards can be used as everything from life-affirming morning mantras and meditative moments of encouragement to fun dinner party table settings or authentic bouquet message cards.

Their wordless illustrated story books like The Storyteller’s Handbook and the recently published The Storyteller’s Almanac invite readers to use their imagination to create wildly original stories together. From their Because of You gift books to their This Isn’t a Book series the core ethos of the Compendium list is about creating connections and providing unique gift items which are all about celebrating the relationships that matter.

GMCD sells a wide range of books across both traditional trade and specialist craft & gift markets. Compendium’s list is a welcome addition to both categories, joining GMCD’s exciting range of clients including Blue Star Press, Tenspeed Press, Ammonite Press, Button Books, NuiNui Kids, Create & Build Wooden Kits and Yellow Owl Workshop.

Windy Dorresteyn, Publishing Director, had this to say; ““We’re thrilled to be partnering with GMC to bring Compendium to the UK market. We’ve had the pleasure of working with the GMC team for many years across our other illustrated imprints and have built a strong relationship based on their deep knowledge of the market and genuine enthusiasm for the books and products they represent. We couldn’t be more excited to have Compendium in their hands and to introduce this special list to a new audience of UK readers.”

GMCD’s Sales Director Michael Robb added; “We are very excited to be selling the Compendium list and believe that this excellent range of lifestyle and gift titles will really resonate with our customers. This new list is a positive sign of our growth and expansion, and retailers can look to us for an increasingly diverse range of uplifting and inspirational products.”
