Steve Cox of Keel Toys has joined friends at Global Promise to undertake the challenge of a lifetime, trekking to the base camp of Everest to raise money for Help for Hero’s and Marie Curie.
The trek starts with a hair-raising flight from Kathmandu to the small town of Lukla in the foothills of the Nepalese Himalaya. From there it takes just under 2 weeks of strenuous walking – and around a total of 6,000m altitude gain – to reach the foot of Everest and descend again. The team’s two challenges are to reach Base Camp itself and hopefully see some summit expeditions preparing to start climbing, and to climb up to the peak of Kallar Pattar at 5,550m for truly spectacular views of Everest and the surrounding mountains.
Says Steve: “This is a fabulous opportunity to support some very deserving charities, and to spend time in one of the most beautiful high mountain regions on earth. Training started in June to get some mileage into my legs and will build up through the summer to walk seven hours a day but nothing can prepare fully for the altitude and the height of the climb. I hope that you individually and as companies can help raise money for these great causes.
