We love The DM Collection!

dm collection catWe loved seeing The DM Collection at P G Live, a line of greeting cards and prints available for sale by award-winning watercolour artist and illustrator Daniel Mackie.

At the beginning of 2011 Daniel Mackie abandoned Photoshop as an image-making tool and started using watercolour and producing original paintings. This change in medium also produced a profound change in style. Daniel won best in book the Creative Review Illustration Annual that year, the winning image was a swimmer, originally an illustration commissioned by National Magazines. However within it were the seeds that would become “The DM Collection”; scenes and landscapes depicted within the form of a figure.

The DM Collection was officially market-ready In January 2013 after  a very successfully trade show at Top Drawer.

This collection started out with the lose theme of animals in their natural habitat. As you can see from the beautiful designs, the creatures’ environment ended up inside the animal! Daniel took his inspiration from an unlikely source – navy tattoos! He comments:

Here Daniel took his cue from Art Deco, keeping the shape of the animal  as simple as possible.  He is a big fan of the printmakers of the Ukiyo-e period which was between the 17th and the 20th centuries. This has very much influenced the interior of the designs.

The cards are 7 x 5 and are all blank inside and supplied in cello bags with envelopes.

  1. Very pretty! These are wonderful.
I have to say that the same thing happened to me: my style profoundly changed after my introduction to Photoshop and all of its attendant possibilities. It allowed me to really think in new ways and I was suddenly able to begin experimenting with my images in ways that are impossible in “real life.”
