It is estimated that the great British public will spend up to £243 million on memorabilia, champagne and party food to celebrate the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first child next month.
To commemorate this joyful event, British manufacturer Crown Trent* has produced a fine bone china children’s tableware set that is presented in a beautiful white satin layered gift box (pictured). Compromising of a bowl, plate, mug & eggcup, features Storks, a Pram, a Rocking Horse, a Teddy & even the Royal Dogs which are illustrated by Milly Green’s distinctive style. Accompanying the children’s set, are three individual fine bone china mugs.
Buckingham Palace will be one of the main beneficiaries thanks to a range of royal-themed baby clothes and gifts ready for purchase from the Royal Collection. The range includes guardsman sleepsuits, princess t-shirts, cushions and dolls, with prices from £5.95, while Prince Charles’s Highgrove shop is selling Union Flag and tractor-themed leather baby shoes.
Royal occasions traditionally stimulate high street sales, with the royal wedding bringing a 6.9 per cent boost and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee helping sales to rise by 3.5 per cent according to the KPMG retail monitor.
The ‘Kate effect’ is a well-known phenomenon among fashion retailers especially, with some of the clothes she wears selling out within hours of being spotted; the women of the world will no doubt keep their eyes just as open for her choices of baby gear. Unintentional brand endorsement could work wonders for nursery suppliers and teddy-bear makers, so watch this space!
