A survey of 1,000 adults by Christmas Tree World has found that if their survey is truly representative, some 15 million British adults might believe they would be on Santa’s naughty list.
When asked which list they thought they’d be on, 59% of Brits thought they would make the nice list, but the rest admitted they were naughty. 1 in 4 (23%) said they believe they belong on the naughty list and this figure rose to as high as 1 in 3 (33%) in the 25-34 age group.
When quizzed on the acts which they thought would help secure their place on the nice list, an overwhelming 75% said they believe being considerate to other people’s feelings would help.
71% said they think whether a person had nice manners would play a part in the selection process, whereas 60% said they feel honesty is the best policy when it comes to landing a spot on the nice list.
Over half (52%) thought Santa would consider whether an individual tidied up after themselves when putting together the nice list, while 48% said they think caring for animals and helping out around the house would help him make his decision. Donating money to charity (36%), not swearing (35%) and not complaining (31%) completed the top 10.
The research found Aberdeen to be the “naughtiest” city in the UK, with an overwhelming 66% of respondents from the Scottish city placing themselves on the naughty list. Scousers are the self-proclaimed “nicest” in the UK, with 79% of Liverpool residents placing themselves firmly on the nice list.
Stephen Evans, managing director at Christmas Tree World commented: “Our advice for the nation would be to consider their actions throughout the year if they want to earn their place on the nice list – after all, there’s room for everyone if they just behave.”
