UK based licensing agency CPLG launched a very exciting property at Brand Licensing Europe, the Michelangelo Collection, featuring private works by the superstar Renaissance painter, poet and sculptor, considered by many to be the greatest artist of all time.
CPLG has teamed up with the Italian government’s cultural foundation, Metamorfosi, to bring the amazing artworks to a global audience for the first time. The agency has access to over 2,700 archived images that includes sketches, letters, poems and architectural designs, all of which have remained in private ownership since the Michelangelo’s death in 1564.
With a unique and exciting creative direction that includes a stunning portrait of Cleopatra, original sketches for the Sistine Chapel, poetry and beautiful sketches only found in private letters, the Michelangelo Collection allows his incredible work to be featured across an extensive range of consumer products.
The style guide was created in partnership with design agency Watermelon, who helped develop a look that features Michaelangelo’s classic works in a contemporary way. The license is being positioned as a mid to higher-end brand and CPLG is already in talks with a number of Italian fashion companies and has appointed sub-agents in China and Japan. Publishing and gifting opportunities are also on the cards.
Territories covered by the agreement include Benelux, Canada, France, Germany (GAS), Iberia, Italy, UK, USA and rest of the world
